Self-Actualization Representation of Josee and Tsuneo Suzukawa in Seiko Tanabe’s Anime entitled Josee the Tiger and The Fish


Abstract
Anime Josee, the Tiger and the Fish by Seiko Tanabe tells struggle of the characters, Josee and Tsuneo Suzukawa who go through in actualizing themselves with the characters they have. This study was conducted to describe the self-actualization of Josee, a disabled person and Tsuneo Suzukawa who was paralyzed by an accident by using Abraham Maslow's five hierarchy of needs. The research method used is a qualitative description method. The data source of this research is an anime entitled Josee the Tiger and the Fish which was written by Kotaro Tamura. To reveal the self-actualization experienced by the two characters, the data were analyzed using structural theory and psychology humanistic theory. The results showed that the character Josee could achieve her self-actualization by becoming an illustrator and the character Tsuneo Suzukawa achieved his self-actualization by getting a scholarship abroad. Both of them achieve self-actualization, to achieve their dreams, they must dare to step forward to make dreams come true.
