Abstract
Children with special needs should be treated differently from children in general. Intellectual disability is a term used to describe children with below-average intellectual abilities. This below-average intelligence causes people with intellectual disabilities to struggle in at least four areas related to attention, memory, language, and learning ability. Therefore, the role of parents in implementing interpersonal communication with mentally retarded children is very important. The purpose of this study is to determine the communication between parents and children with intellectual disabilities in applying discipline to children's learning. The research methods used are descriptive and qualitative. Data sources for this study are primary and secondary data from field observations, informational interviews and research papers. Based on the results of research and discussions that have been conducted, it is concluded that interpersonal communication between parents and children with special needs in the educational profession has proven to be effective and well established. It is based on the specified category.
