An Analysis of Derivational Affixes in the CNN News Articles

Abstract

This study deals with the study of morphologycal analysis of derivational affixes used in CNN
news. The objectives of this study were to find out the most dominant type of affixes and to
describe the function of derivational used in the CNN news articles. Descriptive qualitative
method was used in this study. The finding showed suffix greater occurances than another
affixes, suffixes occured 90 times, such as –ion, -ly, -able, -ing, -y, -able and 3 times occurance
of words with prefixes super-, in-, and en- were supercomputing, incorporating and
encourages. There are four functions of derivational affixes in the four CNN News articles
namely noun-forming, adjective-forming, verb-forming and adverb-forming. The adjective-
forming was 11 occurances, verb-forming was 17 occurances, noun-forming was 29
occurances and adverb-forming was 29 occurances.
