AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG ON JONAH HILL’S MID90S MOVIE SCRIPT.

Abstract

The thesis writer focuses on the analysis of slang on Jonah Hill MID90s movie script. The objectives of the study are, to find out the types of slang used by Jonah Hill in MID90s movie script, and the reasons of Jonah Hill using slang in MID90s movie script. The thesis writer applies the theory used in the conversation in particular context, whether it is humor or pain relief. The thesis writer using Laila Oksiana (2005)’s theory which analyzed slang words and slang meanings used in D12 song’s lyrics related to race, drugs, and violence in the data and the writer is sure that this study has not been analyzed yet. Therefore, he is going to analyze on slang used in the script of mid90s movie and to continue the previous research on slang. In this research, the writer is going to do the similar research but in different scope in which the subject is sociolinguistics study on slang used in the script of mid90s movie. The researcher analyzes slang expressions that used by the characters in the script of mid90s movie and the researcher wants to analyze the language form, contextual meaning and the reasons of using slang expressions. In analyzing the data, the research uses the theory of slang language proposed by Partridge to determine the type of slang, the effect of using slang which proposed by Swanson and Golden a Golden and a theory of slang language which invented by Yanchun and Yahong to explain the function of slang uttered by main characters of “MID90S” movie. The thesis writer suggests the reader to have a deeper understanding of swear words so that they are able to use swear words appropriately and understand the types and the reasons of swearing that used in the conversation in particular context, whether it is humor or pain relief.
