Abstract

This paper examines the theme of class consciousness in Celeste Ng's novel, Little Fires Everywhere, with a specific focus on the character of Mia Warren. Employing a Marxist theoretical framework, this study aims to analyze the representation of class consciousnesswithin the narrative. The primary aims of this study are to investigate the experiences of Mia Warren concerning class consciousness, examine the underlying factors contributing to the occurrence of class consciousness in Mia Warren's life, and analyze the impact of class consciousness on Mia Warren herself. The theoretical framework employed in this study is the Marxist theory, as articulated by Georg Lukacs. The researcher employs internal and extrinsic methodologies to examine the issues. This study aims to examine the portrayal of the bourgeois and proletariat characters in the novel, as well as analyze the manner in which class consciousness is depicted. This study employs a Marxist framework and incorporates the theoretical concept of class consciousness. The research findings indicate that Mia Warren encountered a situation characterized by class warfare upon her arrival in Shaker Heights. The primary causal variables contributing to the occurrence of class consciousness encompass inequality, class consciousness, and exploitation. In this context, Mia Warren's departure from class consciousness presents a significant challenge in addressing the issue of eradicating the perception that workers are marginalized and devoid of significance. At the same time, the affluent possess abundant resources due to their knowledge acquisition and adherence to appropriate behavior. The aim is to eliminate the stigma associated with social inequality, allowing individuals to attain a state of equality without discrimination.
