The Types Of Corrective Feedback Used By English Tutors In Intermediate Online Speaking Class At English Madany Kediri
Abstract
In the early 2020, the Corona Virus (Covid-19) entered Indonesia. Since March 2020, students, parents, and teachers in Indonesia have been deal with online learning. To be an effective online teacher, it’s crucial to master of giving feedback to online learners. Giving feedback to students in teaching and learning process has many advantages for both teachers and learners. This present research aimed to investigate the types of corrective feedback and the tutors’ perception about the implementation of corrective feedback. The research was conducted in the English Madany Kediri. The data were collected through observation and interview. The result of findings indicated that all corrective feedback types occurred in the utterances. There were explicit, recast, clarification, metalinguistic, elicitation, and repetition. The most dominant use of the oral corrective feedback used in the speaking class in English Madany was explicit corrective feedback. On the other hand, the tutor thought that the most effective corrective feedback in the speaking class was recast because it could make the students correct their error by themselves rather than explicit corrective feedback in which students only get the tutors' correction. Accordingly, the result could improve the tutors’ corrective feedback in the other English classes.
