Abstract

This study aims to describe the main character’s traits in resolving psychological conflicts in the novel Yang Telah Lama Pergi by Tere Liye. This research is important because the object of study reflects human life and the emotions that surround it, such as affection, inner turmoil, desires, and achievements. Psychology is a field that studies the human mind, so a person's behavior, character, and personality in everyday life reflect their psyche. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data in this study consists of words or sentences containing psychological conflicts. The data source for this research is the novel Yang Telah Lama Pergi by Tere Liye. The data collection technique used is documentation, which involves examining the contents of the novel and identifying and classifying aspects of psychological conflict. The results of this study show that the main character in Yang Telah Lama Pergi is portrayed through protagonist, antagonist, and tritagonist roles, each with distinct emotions. Each character faces specific conflicts and employs defense mechanisms, such as direct aggression and apathy.
