This research aims to describe the criticisms that represent literature as a social reflection of society, the social context of the author, and the social function of literature within the Jawa Tetep Jawa manuscript. The approach used is sociology, which focuses on examining the social aspects of society. The analysis method employs Ian Watt's theory of the sociology of literature, which views literature based on three aspects: the social context of the author, literature as a social reflection, and the social function of literature. The research's data source is the transcription of the Jawa Tetep Jawa manuscript by Farida Pramestian. The research data consists of sentences within the manuscript that manifest as social critiques. This study attempts to uncover the social conditions prevalent when the Jawa Tetep Jawa manuscript was created. Seventeen social criticisms were identified within the manuscript. These criticisms encompass moral issues, such as the loss of ancestral Javanese values and uncritical modernization, as well as cultural problems like a lack of appreciation and the erosion of Javanese cultural identity. The Jawa Tetep Jawa manuscript is anonymous, with the author not disclosing their identity within the text. This research successfully generated the hypothesis that the author held a priyayi social position and possessed an academic background. This condition influenced the content, themes, language style, audience reach, and even the proportion of the author's ideas conveyed through the manuscript.
