Abstract

This study aims to describe the emotional representation of the main character in the novel "Lara Rasa" and analyze its relevance as a recommended handout for literature learning in Phase F of high school. This study is based on the importance of understanding character emotions in literary appreciation learning as a means of strengthening emotional literacy, empathic sensitivity, and students' interpretive abilities. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with a content analysis approach. Data were obtained from narrative excerpts containing the main character's emotional expressions through reading and note-taking techniques, then analyzed using basic emotion categorization. The results show that the main character's emotions are represented through inner conflict, mood swings, and responses to social pressures that drive the plot. Dominant emotions include sadness, fear, anger, hope, and self-determination, which emerge consistently throughout the character's development. These findings demonstrate that Lara Rasa is worthy of recommendation as a handout for literature learning because it presents rich character psychological dynamics, humanistic values, and is aligned with Phase F learning outcomes. Therefore, this novel has the potential to strengthen students' analytical and reflective competencies in literature learning in high school.
