Abstract

This study was conducted in April 2024 in the waters of Bringsang Village, Gili Genting
District, Sumenep Regency, one of the coastal areas with the potential for coral reef ecosystems
essential for the sustainability of marine resources and marine tourism. The objectives of this
study were to determine the kind of coral growth (life form), determine the percentage of coral
reef cover, and analyze the structure of the coral community existing at the research site. The
Line Intercept Transect (LIT) approach was used to gather data at two observation stations five
meters below the surface. Based on the observations, the proportion of surviving coral reef cover
was 55.6% at point 1 and 50.4% at point 2. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry's (KLHK)
evaluation places this percentage in the "good" category, indicating that the coral reef ecosystem
in this area can still carry out its ecological duties to the best of its abilities. Numerous types of
coral growth have been seen, including branching, submassive, digitate, tabulate, foliose,
massive, and mushroom corals. According to the Shannon-Wiener diversity index, the coral reef
community's structure is moderate, with values of 1.92 at point 1 and 1.82 at point 2. The
dominance index is comparatively low, at 0.16 and 0.17, whereas the uniformity index is strong,
at 0.92 and 0.93. These findings suggest that no one species dominates the coral ecosystem and
that its species distribution is even. As a result, the coral reef ecology in Bringing Village's waters
is in excellent shape and has room to grow through conservation initiatives and environmentally
friendly marine tourism
