Hedonism prioritizes personal or group pleasure without regard for others. This study discusses the phenomenon of hedonism in Japanese popular culture through characters in the form of drama focusing on the hedonism of idol otakus who center their enjoyment on consumption activities and worship of their idols. The urgency lies in exploring why idol otaku choose a hedonistic lifestyle and how these values influence the view of society and individuals. Theories used are Mill's utilitarianism and Saussure's semiotics as support for analyzing signs appearing in the drama’s dialogue, scenes, and settings. The aim is to examine the causes and effects of the hedonistic lifestyle of idol otakus as a representation of contemporary Japanese society in the drama Dakara Watashi wa Oshimashita. This study contributes to the understanding of hedonistic lifestyles reflected in Japanese television drama. The method used is content analysis. The results found that Ai showed a greater preference for lower pleasures as an idol otaku, such as extreme dedication to the idol group, where Ai was willing to give money freely to her oshi to support them financially. The dominant factor causing this preference for lower pleasures is character weakness, with the most significant impact being intellectual impoverishment.
