Infidelity in Munro’s “What Is Remembered” and Lahiri’s “Sexy”

Abstract

This study aims at discussing the infidelity of Meriel and Dr. Asher in “What is Remembered” short story and Miranda and Dev in “Sexy” short story. Further, this study uses descriptive and dramatic method in analyzing the two works through characterization by which the researcher means to present the character mainly through description and discussion as well as through reporting the character’s speech and action. This study also applies a new criticism theory about character and characterization to describe the character who cheats in both short stories.  Another tool used is a sociological approach. The sociological approach used is a theory that covered the reasons for the occurrence of infidelity.  The result of the study shows that in “What is Remembered” Meriel has infidelity with Dr. Asher and in “Sexy” story Dev has infidelity with Miranda.
