Abstract

Cruella de Vil is the American crime movie based on The Hundred and One Dalmatians novel. Craig Gillespie is the director of Cruella de Vil movie, while the screenplay was written by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara. This movie is a prequel of 101 Dalmatians (1995), and it told the origin story of Cruella. Cruella portrayed as the antagonist and described as a tough-minded character who used her past as a motive for a hard worker, unique character development. The contrast of character Cruella in the mentioned two movies is quite various. As a result, this factor attracts the writer’s attention to analyze the use of illocutionary force indicating device uttered by the main character in Cruella de Vil movie script.  There is one problem that have been formulated: What kind of interpretation Illocutionary Force Indicating Device (IFID) were uttered by the main character in the Cruella de Vil movie script?

The writer used a qualitative research method and applied the document analysis as a research method where Cruella de Vil movie script was the data source. In analyzing the data, the writer used theory illocutionary force indicating device (IFID) by Yule (1996) was also used in this analysis.

Based on the analysis, the writer found ten types of illocutionary acts uttered by main character in Cruella de Vil movie script.
