Analisis Kemampuan Berpikir Tingkat Tinggi Siswa Kelas VIII dalam Menyelesaikan Permasalahan Aljabar Ditinjau dari Self-Efficacy

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent to which eighth-grade students are able to apply higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in solving algebra problems, as well as to understand the influence of self-efficacy on their academic achievement. This study was conduced at SMP Negeri 1 Kencong involving 34 eighth-grade students from class VIII-F. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with instruments including a self-efficacy questionnaire, a higher-order thinking problem test, and interview guidelines. The results show that students with high self-efficacy tend to perform better in solving high-order thinking problems up to the C5 (evaluation) level, while students with low self-efficacy experience difficulties and tend to lack confidence. Students with moderate self-efficacy are able to solve problems at the C4 (analysis) level but face challenges with lengthy questions and time constraints. Additionally, external factors such as social distractions and limited time also affect students' higher-order thinking abilities. Even with high self-efficacy, some students reported being distracted by peers or feeling that the time given was insufficient to complete tasks at the C6 (creation) level. This study concludes that self-efficacy plays an important role in enhancing higher-order thinking skills, but external factors need to be addressed to create an optimal learning environment.
