Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the use of illocutionary speech acts in netizen comments on the governor's Instagram status uploads in Java. This study is a research by a novice lecturer. The interest in conducting this study began with the governor's status uploads on Instagram which attracted the attention of researchers. In the governor's uploads about a particular problem, netizens gave comments outside the theme of the existing uploads. Currently, Instagram is an urgency in this study, namely the existence of interesting things in the netizen comment column contained in the status of the governors in Java. The limitations of this study are contained in the research subjects, data were taken from comments in three uploads from governors in Java, namely the governors in Central Java, East Java, and West Java. The research technique used in this study is descriptive qualitative. This research technique attempts to analyze speech in the form of words, phrases, and sentences contained in the netizen's comment column which are adjusted to the theory of speech acts which include representative or assertive speech acts, directive speech acts, commissive speech acts, expressive speech acts, and declarative speech acts. The research data was taken from uploads in July 2023 because that month coincided with the fasting month and the governors' uploads increased. Data analysis carried out in the study by identifying netizen comments, classifying based on data, presenting data, concluding data from the results of netizen comments containing five types of existing speech acts. The results of the analysis show that the speech acts most widely used in netizen comments are expressive speech acts because people feel they are given space to pour out their hearts to their leaders, secondly directive speech acts, thirdly assertive speech acts, fourthly commissive speech acts and the speech act least used in netizen comments is declarative speech acts because netizens do not provide many utterances that allow them to act to decide, prohibit, and other language acts that are dominant in nature.
