Road to Decade: JSK’s Strategic Pivot & New Submission Standards
Refining Our Vision as We Approach a Decade of Impact
As Jurnal Studi Komunikasi (JSK) approaches its 10th Anniversary, we are taking a moment to reflect on our journey and, more importantly, to redefine our future. For nearly a decade, JSK has served as a platform for diverse communication scholarship. However, the next decade demands a sharper focus and a louder voice on the global stage.
In preparation for this milestone, the Editorial Board is launching the "Road to 10 Years" Strategic Transformation. Effective immediately, we are implementing a rigorous restructuring of our scope and submission policies to ensure JSK stands as the premier reference for Southeast Asian communication studies.
Policy Updates: Elevating the StandardTo align with our vision of becoming a globally impactful journal, we are enforcing the following changes:
1. Full Internationalisation (English Only) As we step into our second decade, JSK is committed to breaking language barriers in science. To ensure our authors’ work contributes to the global discourse, we will no longer accept manuscripts written in Bahasa Indonesia. All submissions must now be written in high-standard academic British English (UK).
2. Focus on Substantial Research (No Book Reviews) To maximise space for groundbreaking empirical findings, JSK explicitly reaffirms its policy of not accepting Book Reviews (discontinued since 2020). Our pages are exclusively dedicated to original research articles that push the boundaries of the field.
3. Uncompromising Standard for Novelty (No Replicate Studies) Innovation is the hallmark of a leading journal. Therefore, we will no longer accept replicate studies or papers that merely retest existing variables without offering significant theoretical novelty or contextual advancement. We have a zero-tolerance policy for redundancy.
4. A Continued Commitment to Global Diversity While we strengthen our regional expertise, JSK remains a vibrant hub for international dialogue. We explicitly welcome and encourage diverse perspectives from scholars in Europe, Australia, Africa, the Americas, and East Asia.
We believe that understanding the Southeast Asian context requires a comparative global lens. Therefore, we invite submissions from these regions that offer:
-
Comparative Analysis: Studies that contrast regional dynamics with global phenomena.
-
Universal Relevance: High-impact research that transcends borders and contributes to the broader field of Communication Studies.
As we march toward our 10th year, JSK seeks to define the unique "atmosphere" of Communication Studies in our region. We invite scholars to submit work that:
-
Captures the Nuance: Deeply explores the cultural, political, and digital distinctiveness of Southeast Asia.
-
Impacts the World: Demonstrates how these regional dynamics challenge or refine global communication theories.
This is not just a policy change; it is a commitment to excellence. We invite you to join us in this elevated standard as we prepare to celebrate a decade of Jurnal Studi Komunikasi.
Sincerely,
On behalf of The Editorial Board
