THE EFFECT OF SOAKING DURATION OF BOTTOM GILLNETS ON THE CATCH OF CHICKEN FISH (Thryssa mystax) IN THE WATERS OF KENJERAN, SURABAYA

Abstrak

This experimental study aimed to analyze the effect of soaking time of Bottom Gillnet on the catch of featherfish (Thryssa mystax) in Kenjeran waters, Surabaya. The research was conducted in June-July 2025 using experimental method with Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of three soaking time treatments of 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and 90 minutes with 9 replications each. The data obtained were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, One-Way ANOVA analysis, and continued with Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at 5% significance level. The results showed that the soaking time of bottom gillnet had a significant effect on featherfish catch with F calculated = 286.705 > F table = 3.40 (p < 0.05). The 60-minute soaking time produced the highest catch with a total of 17.92 kg (average 1.99 kg per replication), followed by 30 minutes with a total of 13.70 kg (average 1.52 kg per replication), and 90 minutes with a total of 12.78 kg (average 1.42 kg per replication). The LSD test confirmed that all soaking time treatments had significant differences from each other with 95% confidence interval. This study concluded that the 60-minute soaking time is the most optimal for catching featherfish in Kenjeran waters, Surabaya, thus providing practical recommendations for local fishermen to improve the efficiency and productivity of their catch.
