Juwana waters is one of the potential fishing areas with various types of fishing gear used. Gill net fishing gear is the dominant fishing gear in Juwana waters. Midwater gill net are classified in the group of gill nets or gill nets. Differences in mesh size indirectly affect the results of fishing. The purpose of this study was to determine the best mesh size for catches in Juwana waters. The research method used was experimental fishing with the calculation of a randomized block design (RBD), 3 different treatments (mesh sizes measuring 1.3 inches, 1.5 inches and 2 inches with 9 repetitions of the study. Data were analyzed using variance (Anova) and continued by using the BNT test. The results of this study indicate that the highest number of catches is a mesh size of 1.3 inches with a total catch of 5,372 kg. Then in second place is the 1.5 inch mesh size with a total catch of 4,670 kg and the last order is the 2 inch mesh size with a total of 3,855 kg. In the BNT test analysis, the effect of differences in net size can have a significant effect on fish catches. The types of fish caught during the study were mackerel (Rastreligger sp), anchovies (Mystacoleucus padangensis) and happy fish (Polynemus tetradactylus).
