Pemanfaatan Limbah Cangkang Kemiri Sebagai Substitusi Agregat Kasar Pada Beton
Abstract
Currently, the rapid development of infrastructure development, the need for concrete and concrete constituent materials is also increasing, this results in the occurrence of large-scale mining of natural resources which has an impact on decreasing the quality of ecosystems that can damage the environment. Pecan shells are waste from candlenut fruit that can be used for coarse aggregate because it has a fairly large hardness. The Camba forest complex is a forest that stretches from the Cemara, Camba, and Mallawa sub-districts which are the largest candlenut-producing sub-districts in Maros Regency. The area of candlenut forest under management is 9,299 hectares with a production of ± 3,675.40 tons/year, out of the total candlenut production in Indonesia of 79,137 tons/year. The purpose of the study was to test the compressive strength, split tensile strength, and volume weight of concrete using candlenut shell waste as a substitute for making concrete with a composition of 0% 2.5% 5% 7.5% and 10% by weight of coarse aggregate. Based on the results of the study, the optimum value for the composition of the candlenut shell was 10% with an average compressive strength of 22.54 MPa, and a volume weight of 1.74 Kg/cm³ and a Split Tensile Strength of 2.71 MPa., can be categorized as lightweight concrete. Which includes lightweight structural aggregate concrete with an air dry density of 1440 – 1850 kg/m3 and a compressive strength greater than 17.24 MPa. (American Concrete Institute - ACI, 2004), It is recommended that the composition of 10% candlenut shell waste can be used for the manufacture of lightweight concrete mixes for simple houses, paving.
