Representasi Folklor Bukan Lisan sebagai Upaya Pelestarian Budaya Tradisional Jepang Melalui Karya Sastra


Abstract
This study examines folklore that often appears in literary works. Folklore itself refers to traditions passed down through generations in various forms, such as oral, partially oral, and non-verbal. This aligns with the concept of traditional culture, encompassing everything narrated, spoken, or inherited from parents or ancestors. Introducing and preserving traditional culture today can be achieved through various media, one of which is comics. This effort aims to ensure that younger generations continue to remember and contribute to preserving traditional culture through various means, including literary works. The goal is to create an understanding of traditional culture or folklore within a literary context. To analyze comics, this research employs the theory of literary anthropology. The study focuses on non-verbal folklore in the comic series Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Vol. 1-3 by Midori Yuuma, published by Enterbrain, Tokyo, Japan. The first volume was released in 2016, while the second and third volumes followed in 2017. This research uses a qualitative method with descriptive data, which does not involve numbers and is carried out by describing each analysis. The findings reveal that non-verbal folklore in the comic Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi is divided into two forms: material folklore, which includes traditional architecture (ryokan), traditional room interiors, onsen, handicrafts such as Noh masks, traditional Japanese food, clothing, and folk instruments; and non-material folklore, such as gestures (ojigi and seiza). The comic Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi functions not only as an entertainment medium but also as an educational tool and a means of preserving traditional culture. This study demonstrates that a literary works can incorporate numerous elements of non-verbal folklore that remain appreciated in modern Japanese society.
