Abstrak

As a developing country, the number of poor people in Indonesia is still relatively high. The poor population in Indonesia also consists of women. Poor women in Indonesia are vulnerable to various economic problems. This research was conducted to reveal and analyze how women in Indonesia who are in poor conditions carry out excessive roles. The analysis was carried out using role theory. This study uses a qualitative method. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with various informants. In addition, direct observations were also made of batik activities carried out by women in several regions in Indonesia. A document search is also carried out on relevant data and sources. The results of the study show that women batik makers in Indonesia who are in a poor condition try to improve their quality of life with excessive roles. They are not only housewives, but also work to make a living by working in several fields such as being farmers and making batik. Income from two or three jobs has not taken women in Indonesia out of poverty. One of the contributing factors is that the income from batik is relatively low, not yet reaching a decent level. The income that is still low and inadequate that this woman earns is not only used to meet her own needs, but also for the needs of her family, including her husband and children. So that women remain in poor conditions.
